How To Keep Your Mouth Clean

The bacteria living in your mouth in the form of plaque can cause numerous problems like cavities, periodontal disease, and gingivitis. Keep your mouth healthy by practicing a proper oral hygiene on a daily basis.

This is a layer of material containing bacteria that accumulates on teeth and areas where the brush is unable to reach. This is produced due to the acids produced by the food you eat. The biggest producers of this sticky layer are the sugary foods, cereals, and even bread.

This unpleasant substance has a negative effect on gums as well, making them red and sensitive. Moreover, there are some cases in which they can start bleeding heavily. The result of the plaque on your gums is the periodontal disease. People, who have this problem, will experience the gum pulling away from the teeth, forming pockets that fill with bacteria.

If this disease isn’t treated, the bone around your teeth can be destroyed, which will eventually lead to the removal of your teeth.

How to get rid of it?

The easiest and most efficient way to remove plaque is by brushing your teeth properly on a daily basis. This includes the areas where you have tough a time reaching too.

Brush your teeth twice a day with a toothbrush that allows you to clean all spaces quickly. To protect your teeth from decay, you can use an antimicrobial toothpaste with fluoride. Remove plaque between the teeth with interdental cleaners or floss to prevent gum disease.

How to brush your teeth?

The American Dental Association recommends that every individual should place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gums. Move the brush back and forth gently by cleaning the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of the teeth.

Using a gentle up-and-down stroke, you can quickly clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth by using the tip of the brush only. Remember that there is a considerable amount of bacteria on your tongue, which means that you need to clean it frequently. This will remove the unwanted visitors and freshen your breath.

How to floss your teeth?

For a proper flossing use about 18 inches of floss and hold it tightly between your thumbs and forefingers. Then use a gentle rubbing motion to clean the teeth. When you reach the gum, turn the floss into a C-form and slide it into the space between the floss and the tooth. Move it up and down in the shape of the tooth.

After that, use the floss to clean the side of the tooth. Repeat this chore with every tooth to reach maximum effect.

If you wish to increase the cleanliness of your mouth, then you can use an antimicrobial mouth rinse to reduce bacteria and plaque.

Fluoride mouth rinses will also prevent tooth decay. However, this product shouldn’t be used for children aged 6 or younger. Most mouth rinses have age recommendations on their labels.
